But I wanted to see what it actually does with a real resume.

So I tested it myself in July 2026. What came back didn’t match the pitch. Here’s the honest breakdown – who it's actually worth paying for, who should skip it, and what I'd use instead.

How I reviewed: I uploaded my resume to AIApply’s free plan in July 2026, picked the AI resume builder, applied the Harvard template, and edited every section. I recorded what the free plan let me do, what it hid behind the paywall, and what the full stack costs once you add Auto Apply credits. Then I ran the same resume through ResumeUp.AI and compared it with the same criteria.

Where It Falls Short

• The cover letter misses your best material. AIApply writes one automatically, whether you asked or not, and it skips credentials and awards that are in the resume you gave it.

• It puts the wrong email on your letter. AIApply uses the email you signed up with, not the one on the resume you imported.

• The resume score is bad. It scores your resume on import, before you’ve changed a word, and a straight import came back perfect. A score is meant to tell you what to fix; a perfect one on first pass tells you it isn’t looking.

• There’s no starting from scratch. The only way in is by importing a resume or a LinkedIn profile. If you don’t have a resume yet, AIApply can’t build one.

• Auto Apply targets the wrong jobs. Reviewers report applications going out at the wrong seniority, in the wrong language, and to the wrong locations despite correct settings.

• You have to buy three subscriptions to get one product. Resumes, applying, and interviews are sold separately, and none of them include the others. So the toolkit costs $147/month to actually assemble.

What I Found After Testing AIApply’s Free Plan (July 2026)

I didn’t want to judge AIApply on its homepage, so I signed up for the free plan, ran my own resume through it, and tried every tool it gave me. Here’s what I found.

Setting Up

Getting started was quick, but there’s only one way in: import your resume or your LinkedIn profile. There’s no blank start and no building from scratch, so if you don’t have a resume yet, AIApply can’t make you one. I uploaded mine, and it parsed cleanly, pulling every detail without me retyping anything. Under 15 minutes, it had built me a Senior Accountant resume in the Harvard template.

Resume Score

Once the resume was built, AIApply scored my resume 100%. Then I tried to read it. The preview was blurred out behind a green “Upgrade to Unlock Your Resume” button, and the Tailor to a Job Post, the ATS scan against a real job, was locked too. So the only feedback I got on the free plan was a number telling me my resume was perfect.

A score is supposed to tell you what to fix. 100% says there’s nothing to fix on a document I’m not allowed to read. I can’t proofread it for typos, a wrong date, or a section that came through broken.

Cover Letter

AIApply wrote a cover letter on its own – I never asked for one. It’s about 200 words against a resume, and it reads like it skimmed a resume once and paraphrased it politely. Nothing in it is wrong, but it didn’t mention my name. If I remove the company name, then it could belong to any accountant with a few years behind it.

It skipped my CPA and CMA. For a senior accountant, those are the credentials that get you past the first screen. It found room for advanced Excel. It ignored my Employee Excellence Award and the whole achievements section, and used one number out of the seven. Then it put an email address on the letter that isn’t the one on my resume.

Mock Interview

AIApply generated 10 questions for the Senior Accountant role, and they were good – month-end close, ERP system, the things that I’d actually get asked. I only got the questions; the answers were blurred out behind the paywall. Questions aren’t a product, though any accountant can guess they’ll be asked about their ERP experience. The answers are the reason you opened the tool.

What Else Is Locked

Auto Apply is the reason most people signed up – the AI finds the jobs and applies to them for you, but you can’t touch it on the free plan. The job tracker lets you search but won’t let you open anything. Interview Buddy is locked too, and that’s the one I’d tell you to pay for — live help during a real interview actually works, and nothing else in this category does it.

My Takeaway From the Test

AIApply is quick, and the tools look good. My resume was built in 15 minutes, and the interview questions are sharp. But the free plan is a demo. I couldn’t read the resume it built me, couldn’t see a single interview answer, and couldn’t touch Auto Apply, the feature the whole product is sold on. What I could see was a cover letter I never asked for that left off my CPA and CMA. You can watch AIApply work, but you can’t use it until you pay.

• On Trustpilot, AIApply holds 4.2 out of 5 based on 1,400+ reviews. But Trustpilot has flagged the profile itself, warning that the company may be using unsupported methods to collect reviews.
