HiringCafe Review 2026: I Tested the Free Job Search Engine
HiringCafe finds jobs straight from company sites for free, but is it worth it? Hands-on 2026 review: filters, tracker, ghost jobs, best alternative.

If you’ve been job hunting on Reddit, you’ve probably seen people recommend HiringCafe (also written Hiring Cafe, at hiring.cafe). It’s a free job search engine that pulls listings directly from company career pages, not from job boards like LinkedIn or Indeed. It filters out recruiting agencies, and when you click a job, it sends you to the company’s own apply page.
Job boards are full of ghost jobs, listings nobody plans to fill. ResumeUp.AI’s own study of more than 980,000 US listings found 27.4% were still open after 30 days, the threshold for a likely ghost job, and Greenhouse reports 18 to 22% of postings on its platform fall into that category. Nearly one in three hiring managers admit to posting roles they do not intend to fill soon, per Clarify Capital. A tool that cuts the fakes saves you time.
So I tried it myself in September 2026. In this review, I’ll show you what it does well, where it falls short, and what you’ll still need to do yourself.
Disclosure: ResumeUp.AI is our own product. I judged HiringCafe on what I could test and credited it where it leads.

HiringCafe Review: The Short Version
HiringCafe skips the job boards and pulls listings directly from company career pages, so you find roles that never get posted to Indeed or LinkedIn. Free, no account required.
Where it falls short: ghost jobs still get through, listings can be hours behind since it crawls only about twice a day, there’s no mobile app, and once you find a role, applying is all on you.
Worth using if your main goal is discovering jobs and you don’t mind handling applications yourself.
ResumeUp.AI is the best alternative. It matches jobs to your profile from more than 100,000 job boards and ATS systems, scores each 0 to 100, tailors your resume, and applies with one click or automatically, from a free plan or $29 a month ($8.25 a month billed annually).

What is HiringCafe? Full Overview

HiringCafe is a free job search engine that finds jobs directly from company career pages (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, and others) and puts them all in one place. It was built by Ali Mir, a former Meta, DoorDash, and Rippling engineer, and Hamed Nilforoshan, a Stanford computer science PhD, and Business Insider profiled it in August 2024. You get deep filters, saved searches, a job tracker, a Talent Network profile, and a Talent Agent that sends matching jobs by email. Everything is free for job seekers, with no paid plan and no account needed to search.
What HiringCafe Actually Does
Finds jobs straight from company websites, including roles that never show up on LinkedIn or Indeed
Removes recruiting agencies and fake consulting firms from your results
Lets you filter by salary, seniority, company size, true remote vs hybrid, timezone, benefits, and visa sponsorship
Sends you directly to the company’s own apply page
Lets you save jobs, save searches, hide companies, and track applications, all without an account
Has a Talent Agent that learns what you want and sends you matching jobs daily
What Makes HiringCafe Stand Out
It’s 100% free for job seekers.
It finds jobs straight from company websites, so you see roles that never show up on Indeed or LinkedIn.
The filters go deeper than any job board’s. You can sort by salary, experience, company size, real remote vs hybrid, benefits, and more.
The results are clean. No ads, no “Easy Apply” spam, and far fewer recruiter and duplicate listings than big job boards.
It has a free built-in tracker to save jobs, organize them, and mark what you’ve applied to.
Where HiringCafe Falls Short
Fake jobs still slip through. HiringCafe indexes what companies publish, so it cannot tell a live role from a ghost one. Our data puts the ghost rate at more than one in four US listings, so a 30-day-old posting here deserves the same suspicion as one on Indeed.
New jobs are slow to show up. By HiringCafe’s own account it crawls company sites about twice a day, so a job can be 12 hours old before you see it, and Indeed or LinkedIn may show it first.
It doesn’t apply for you. It finds the job and sends you to the company’s site, but you still fill out every application by hand.
Coverage isn’t complete. HiringCafe has said it indexes about a third of open US jobs so far, with a goal of four-fifths by the end of 2026, and there is less to find outside the US.
No app or job alerts. It only works in a web browser, with no mobile app and no real-time alerts when a new job is posted.
It takes time to learn. With so many filters, the layout can feel busy and confusing when you first start.
What I Found When I Tested HiringCafe
I tested HiringCafe myself in September 2026. I searched for data scientist jobs near New York City, saved a role to the tracker, and set up a Talent Network profile to see how the whole thing works. Here’s what I found in each part.
Job Search and Filters
I typed “data scientist” and set a 50-mile radius around New York City. Before showing results, a bar asked, “Did I understand you correctly?” and had already added Department: Data and Analytics plus Role Type: Individual Contributor. The search returned 395 jobs from 197 companies, each card pre-parsed with salary, work setting, and experience. But the default Relevance sort put month-old jobs first, so I had to set the Date Posted filter to trust what I saw.

Job Tracker
I saved the Mediacom Communications role, and it dropped into the Tracker under Saved, carrying over everything from the card: the $100k to $135k range, Hybrid, Full Time, the 2+ YOE summary, and the full skills list. The pipeline tabs even include Ghosted, which most trackers ignore. But nothing moves on its own. Because HiringCafe sends you to the company’s own site to apply, every stage change after Saved is on you to update.

Talent Network Profile
Setup took a few minutes and showed a “Complete” checkmark when done. My favorite part was the visibility control: three modes, Actively searching, Not searching but open, and Off, that take effect immediately, with Off keeping everything saved. Useful if you’re hunting while employed. But two limits stood out. Employers only ever see one resume, so my single data scientist version represents me everywhere. And “Open to working in” defaults to where you live unless you add locations yourself.

Is HiringCafe Legit? Ratings and User Reviews
Yes. HiringCafe is a real company founded by Ali Mir and Hamed Nilforoshan, profiled by Business Insider in August 2024, and every job links to the employer’s own site. It is free, and you do not have to create an account or hand over personal information to search. What it does not have yet is a review track record, and it cannot vouch for whether a listing is real.
On Trustpilot, HiringCafe has a 3.8 TrustScore from two reviews, both five stars, so treat the score as provisional. Both say it found them jobs they couldn’t find on Indeed or LinkedIn.
On Reddit, the r/hiringcafe community is large and mostly positive. The main complaints are fake job listings and new jobs taking too long to show up.
What HiringCafe Users are Saying
A happy user gave it 5 stars. He found a job that wasn’t on Indeed, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, or LinkedIn, and said the search and filters are the best of any job site he’s used.

One user who says they work at a listed company was upset. They say HiringCafe is full of fake jobs it can’t catch, and claim to have counted 4,508 fake listings from their own company alone.

A user says some listings vanish mid-interview while dead roles stay up, so it’s better to apply for jobs that are only a few hours old.

What’s the Best Alternative to HiringCafe?
The best alternative is ResumeUp.AI. HiringCafe is best at finding jobs and stops there: it does not score a job against your resume, tailor the resume, or apply. ResumeUp.AI does all three, and it works with HiringCafe rather than against it.
HiringCafe hands you an employer link on Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby. Paste that link into ResumeUp.AI and it scores the job against your resume from 0 to 100, tailors the resume to that posting, and applies in one click. Or skip the browsing: ResumeUp.AI matches jobs to your profile from more than 100,000 job boards and ATS systems on its own, and can apply automatically to matches above the bar you set.
And it does the whole job search in one place:
AI resume builder with 20+ templates
ATS checker that scores against the exact job
AI job search agent that matches jobs from 100,000+ sources and applies in one click or automatically
Chrome extension that autofills applications in one click
HiringCafe vs ResumeUp.AI: Feature Comparison
Finding Jobs: Sources and Freshness
Both go to the source. HiringCafe indexes employer career pages and, by its own account, crawls them about twice a day, so a posting can be 12 hours old before you see it. ResumeUp.AI matches from more than 100,000 job boards and ATS systems, scores every new posting against your profile, and sorts by best score or newest, so you spend the first look on the jobs that fit.
Timing matters. Applying in the first few days after a posting goes live raises your odds, according to research by Andrey Fradkin of Boston University published in Management Science. His advice: monitor for new postings, “you might even have an agent do that for you,” and be ready to apply as soon as a job is posted.
Applying to Jobs: Manually vs Auto-Apply
ResumeUp.AI wins here. With HiringCafe, you find a job and then fill out the whole application yourself on the company’s site. With ResumeUp.AI, one click on a matched job submits a resume tailored to that posting, or the agent applies automatically above the bar you set, and every application is logged with its score and reason. The Chrome extension fills forms for anything you apply to by hand.
Tools: Search Engine vs Full Toolkit
ResumeUp.AI wins here too. HiringCafe does one thing: it finds and organizes jobs. That’s it. ResumeUp.AI covers everything else, with a resume builder, ATS checker, cover letters, LinkedIn optimizer, mock interviews, and a job tracker, all in one place.
Pricing: Free vs a Free Plan and $29 a Month
HiringCafe is completely free, and that is real. ResumeUp.AI has a free plan too, with 20 AI credits, unlimited ATS scans, the LinkedIn score, and the job tracker; Pro is $29 a month, or $8.25 a month billed annually. You are paying for the things HiringCafe does not do: scoring a job against your resume, tailoring it, and applying. If you only need to find jobs, free wins. If you want help landing them, ResumeUp.AI is worth it.
HiringCafe vs LinkedIn and Indeed
HiringCafe has three things LinkedIn and Indeed do not: listings pulled from the employer’s own careers page rather than reposted by agencies, a true remote versus hybrid distinction, and no Easy Apply pile-ons. LinkedIn and Indeed have three things HiringCafe does not: job alerts, a mobile app, and a network you can use for referrals.
Neither is a substitute for the other. LinkedIn and Indeed have alerts, a network layer, and far more listings, but their remote filters lump hybrid in with remote and the same posting shows up fifty times. Use HiringCafe for the roles the big boards miss and for filters that mean what they say; use LinkedIn for referrals and recruiters. Whichever board you find a job on, the timing research above says apply within days, which is where a tool that scores and applies for you earns its place.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose HiringCafe If
You mainly want to find jobs and don’t need help with your resume or applications.
You want to see roles straight from company websites that don’t show up on Indeed or LinkedIn.
You like digging through lots of listings and applying on your own
You want a free tool with no account and no catch
Choose ResumeUp.AI If
You want to find jobs and get help actually landing them, all in one place
You want your resume tailored and checked against each job, so it gets past the ATS
You want to apply with one click on a matched job, or let the agent apply above the bar you set
You want the full toolkit: resume builder, cover letters, LinkedIn optimizer, mock interviews, and a tracker
For most job seekers, ResumeUp.AI is the better pick because it helps with the whole search, not just finding jobs. HiringCafe is a great choice if all you want is to find roles and apply yourself. And the two work together: find a role on HiringCafe, paste its employer link into ResumeUp.AI, and it is scored, tailored, and applied in one click.
